Ownership, explained
How eXp agents become owners.
Most brokerages take your split and that's it. eXp is a public company (EXPI), and it gives agents three ways to earn or buy its stock. Two are awards you earn by doing your job well. The third lets you buy stock at a discount.
01 · Sustainable Equity Plan
Milestone stock awards
eXp gives you stock automatically when you hit certain milestones. You don't buy anything. It's a thank-you for producing and for helping the company grow.
The three milestones
How much?
When the plan launched in 2018, the awards were worth $200 for your first transaction, $400 for capping, and $400 for each agent you attract once they close. Since then, eXp has lowered the number of shares awarded each time the company reaches a new agent-count milestone. Today's amounts may be different.
The catch
The stock vests over three years. You need to stay with eXp in good standing for three years from the award date to keep it.
02 · Top producers
ICON Agent Award
Hit ICON status and eXp gives you back up to $16,000 in EXPI stock. That's your whole cap. In effect, your brokerage costs for the year come back to you as stock.
Two ways to qualify (pick one)
Path A
Cap, then close 20 more homes
All in the same anniversary year.
Path B
$500,000+ in gross commission
With at least 10 transactions.
You also need to meet eXp's cultural requirements.
How the $16,000 is paid
03 · Buy in
Agent Equity Program
This one's optional. You choose to have eXp set aside 5% of each commission, and that money buys EXPI stock for you at a discount to the market price.
Example
On a $10,000 commission check, at a 10% discount:
The discount means every share starts worth more than you paid. You can turn the program on or off.
Important
Stock prices go up and down, and award values are based on the share price when they're granted. eXp sets these programs and can change them, including award amounts and the purchase discount. Confirm current terms in eXp Enterprise before making decisions. This page is not financial advice.
